Three weeks ago, I received the first phone call and I just received the second phone call from (613) 927-9687. It is an automated phone call (woman’s voice), stating it is the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) and threatening a lawsuit for unpaid taxes.
The first time it happened, I figured it was a scam but I went to CRA’s web site, looked up the phone number and called them. The CRA confirmed it was a scam, took the information and said they would post an alert.
I have no idea if the RCMP is looking into this but they SHOULD BE.
Anyway, for any Canadian that receives a phone call from CRA threatening a lawsuit, do NOT call the number they give you in the phone call, i.e. (613) 927-9687, but rather go to CRA’s web site, look up phone number for your region and then give them a quick call to double check with them.
The bottom-line is that a call from (613) 927-9687 or a call that wants you to call (613) 927-9687 IS A SCAM.
